My travel route for Sunday, January 27th and Notes on Hospitality
On Friday after a day of driving then shooting shows for 5 hours, the person who offered me a place to stay simply decided to not respond to messages.
Now people, it’s cool when you offer things to be nice… but for fucks sake, follow through. Being honest and saying you can’t help is certainly better than saying you can help then leaving a person to consider sleeping in her car at 130am in the Lower Haight.
Fortunately, Gil, a fellow photographer and person I had never met in real life, was on Facebook the moment I felt hopeless. While I had my reservations having not met him (all of which end in murder), in the end he turned out to be amazingly hospitable. He even had a hot plate of spaghetti waiting for me when I showed up at 1am on Saturday after shooting shows for 12 hours.
I definitely owe him a meal the next time he passes through LA.
Anyway, the moral of the story is 1) don’t be a dick and 2) if you’re in SF, hire Gil Regio because he’s an awesome person and photographer and maker of spaghetti.
PS. special extra thanks to Rebecca O'Malley for looking out for me in case I had any further problems Saturday night. It’s people like her and Gil who restore my faith in humanity.
