I’ve started volunteering an evening out of my week taking pictures for Cinefamily, because you know, I don’t value my free time or sanity. But really, I support Cinefamily because I love their programming.

In which case, I will plug two shows.

• Family Band: The Cowsill’s Story: Thursday 8/25 8pm They are the real-life inspiration behind TV’s The Partridge Family, but The Cowsills’ lives were no sitcom. Darkness lurks beneath the lilting harmonies and optimistic, innocent melodies; their story is raw, honest, tragic, beautiful — and the music, sublime.  After the film, stick around for a Q&A with directors Louise Palanker and Ian Broyles — alongside Bob and Paul Cowsill, who will also perform a live set together!
  

• Doug Benson Movie Interruption : X-Men First Class Wednesday, 8/31 7:30pm Doug and his funny friends interrupt a movie, MST3K-style. Past guests have included Elisabeth Shue, Paul Scheer, Adam Scott, Zach Galifianakis, Steve Agee, and the guy who played the cult leader in Drive Angry.
