Ending up on the tumblr radar has been… insightful. Turns out there a lot more young, super scary fanatical folk on here than I ever realized.
So tonight, I decided to take the role of the wise old owl and impart some words of wisdom to a random user who had been lifting my photos, only to be met with what’s basically a “Hey lady, fuck you, I found found them fair and square on your flickr, changed the color, and now they’re mine.”
Her ridiculous argument aside, it seems the idea of giving credit seems to be largely lost on the generation before me and it’s pretty fascinating. Tumblr has made it really easy to source content, yet people are just downright flippant about it, and the only thread I’ve found is that they were born in the 90s. Is it because they’ve grown up torrenting and naturally appropriating that they lack respect for the source?
It’s the only thing that makes sense to me, so I’m going with that.
